Project Overview

Fireflies and Figments: A Willow’s Journey was a game I worked on in 2021 and early 2022. I served as the narrative designer and sole writer since the beginning of the project, answering directly to the lead designer and producer, and working alongside other members of the design team. After deciding that the game would use comic-book cutscenes, I led and managed the comic-book art team, including finding other experts to fulfill certain needs, like lettering.

About halfway through the project, I was also given the opportunity to use my skills in level design, crafting one of the game’s five “levels” according to the needs of our GDD. Along with that game chances to craft some of the puzzles scattered throughout the game. Near the last 20% of the project, I worked within Unity to put the level together, decorate the environment, and add other gameplay-necessary elements to that level and others, such as invisible walls.

Finally, during slow weeks I took up the role of social media manager for some of the game’s social accounts and advised the leadership team on how to promote the project. This included managing and serving as an editor for a short story contest that gave other writers a chance to have small stories included in the finished project.

My sincerest thanks to every member of the team. Please look through the roster, here. And a special thank you to all the people I was lucky enough to work with directly and get to know, including Scott Angeles, Bas Blouw, Brian Cummings, James Wallace, Kristen Robertson, Yota Vaj, and Kat Langdon. I’d wish all of you the best of luck, but honestly? Folks as skilled and kind as you hardly need luck.
