C.J. Wilson

Writer / Narrative Designer

(Previously Connor D. Johnson)

I Write Things

I write to inform and entertain, to persuade and to promote, to evoke and... something else with an "e." I didn't say I was a poet. "Educate" probably fits there. I've been a narrative designer, written fiction, research articles, appeal letters, blog posts, and more, all while heading up creative teams, leading projects, and crafting content strategies. And, if you're here, maybe I can write something for you.

My Background

I earned my B.F.A. in Writing, Literature, and Publishing from Emerson College in 2016. I’ve been a freelance writer since 2015, working in industries ranging from law and manufacturing to pop culture and gaming. Much of my non-fiction has been research-intensive, requiring loads of interviews and leg-work. I do more than write, too; I edit, collaborate with other artists, coordinate teams, widen networks, and increase visibility/secure funding for non-profits.  I voraciously study storytelling, game writing and development, including how to work with Twine, Unity, and Game Maker Studio 2. Since early 2021, I’ve been the narrative designer for Game Create Repeat’s first project: Fireflies and Figments: A Willow’s Journey, a project for which I’ve also acted as a manager, level designer, game designer, and in-engine Unity environmental designer.

As for my free time? Much of it is spent writing fiction, scripts, and games. The rest is spent traveling, meeting new people, or researching whatever new topic or hobby has caught my attention.

Want to Hire Me?

I'm accepting all clients, but the following receive priority:

Game Writing and Narrative Design

I've proven that I can deftly meld narrative with gameplay, and write stellar scripts.

Fiction

I love to tell stories, and they don't always have to be my stories.

Non-profits

From advocacy and environmentalism to equal rights, I use my skills for causes I believe in.

Journalism

To inform, to educate, and to reveal, working under the highest of standards.

CJ will be a valuable asset to any writing team. CJ's knowledge on wide ranging topics can make it seem like he knows the author's intended meaning, better than they do themselves--while editing the information to be more journalistic and succinct. His keen eye, sharp wit, and kind heart are just as important in his arsenal as his literary background and excellent sense of grammar. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work alongside him.
